You CAN Start a Business While Broke…

Don’t let empty pockets stop you!

I think we can all relate to the concept of being poor. Some of us have been poorer than others, but there has been at least one time in our adult likes where we weren’t sure where our next meals would come from. We have all been in the situation where we are living month to month. We might not even have enough money to go from month to month. You get a paycheck, pay all of your important bills and then you struggle to find enough money to feed yourself for the rest of the month. I think it is safe to say that most people have had a hungry tummy once or twice in their life where they didn’t have enough money to ease their growling bellies. I have come across many people in my life, who have had to deal with some financial difficulties and pitfalls in life. Heck, I have been in that situation.

Some of you who are struggling with money might be afraid to dream. You might be afraid that you aren’t ever going to get out of the month-to-month because there isn’t anything you can do about it. You believe that poor people don’t have the right to dream because they don’t have the resources to make any of their dreams a reality. I am here to tell you that finances shouldn’t stop you from achieving your goals.

I have met many people who struggle with finances, but they come up with some great business ideas  But then they sit on their business idea for months and even years because they don’t believe that they have enough cash to begin with their business. They are under the impression that they need tons of extra cash to make a profitable business and so they don’t try to go about with their dream. They believe that they can’t actually start a business when all they have in their cupboards cups of Ramen noodles and Mac and Cheese. They don’t have expensive steak or fancy lobster, so there is no way that they can make a successful business right? Wrong!

The world around you is telling you that you need to raise tons of money, go through rounds of venture capitalists and take out tons of loans before you begin your journey of your business. Some people take out massive amounts of loans that they have no clue when they will ever be able to pay back. Before their company even begins they already have sold some of their shares (so they don’t own their full business) and they are in crazy amount of debt before they have even started making a dime.

Although the thought of opening up your own business seems scary financially you have certainly done this before. Remember in college where you were making little income, paying tons of money to school, sharing a place with 10 other people and eating only Ramen Noodles? You did it then and you can do it again.  Be willing to Eat Ramen Noodles now so you can eat lobster later.

It is true (to an extent) that you need to spend money to make money. You can’t start a clothing business without creating an inventory, you can’t create an Ice Pop business without purchasing equipment. Each company is going to need their own items that you will need to buy for your business. You need to purchase a website, create business cards, and market your new company. It would be a lie if anybody told you that you wouldn’t be spending anything on your business. However, it would also be a lie if somebody told you that you have to spend thousands of dollars to get started. You don’t need thousands of dollars to start a business. You have to be willing to eat Ramen noodles and live a minimalist lifestyle until your company begins to flourish.
